I have moved to China from UK and have shipped all my clothes, medicines and books etc for at least one years stay in China. China customs would like a complete spreadsheet showing how much my personal items are worth so that they can charge me customs tax. The advice I require is: will China customs understand that UK prices are much higher than China prices. For instance for ladies boots (worn) would have cost me about £100 each in London - even taking into account depreciation on the costs of these they are still considerably more than items would have cost in Nanchang. Can you advise me on how to complete my spreadsheet - am I showing my guess at depreciation in £'s or my guess at costs in RMB

Dear Sir or Madam,

Thanks very much for your attention to ETCN.

Regarding to your question, you need to provide reasonable depreciation costs on all used and second hand clothes, footwear etc., and you need to show in £'s or USD.
